With there being so many different roofing options available (e.g. flat roofs, pitched roofs, and gable roofs), it can be difficult to know which one is best and which one to choose for your property. In particular, finding the cheapest material for roof design can be challenging. Therefore, we’ve gathered all the data for you in this article, allowing you to cut the costs for your next roofing project.
What are the different roofing options available?
As previously mentioned, there are various options when it comes to choosing a roof type. For example, you have gable roofs, flat roofs, pitched roofs, and mono-pitched roofs, to name a few.
Each roofing type has its own benefits and drawbacks, but usually, the two cheapest of the options are flat roofs and pitched roofs.
Flat roofs
Flat roofs are slowly becoming more and more popular, mainly due to the ease of installation and low costs. In particular, flat roofs are favored due to the savings on workmanship, but also, you have the benefit of having the room to install solar panels and other components to further help you save money in the future.

Nonetheless, this does not take away from the fact that it’s one of the cheapest roofs to build with excellent strength, durability, and functionality.
Pitched roofs
Pitched roofs will nine out of ten times outlive a flat roof, mainly due to the higher quality materials used during the construction process. One downside of pitched roofs, however, is the height, with some building regulations not allowing these. On the other hand, the additional height provides additional room for your home, whether a spacious attic conversion or extra storage space.
The savings of a pitched roof mainly come from using fewer individual materials. But also, equally the extra space can also be seen as an investment, increasing the value of your home and helping you cut costs.

Their work is so good it withstood the 100 mph plus winds!
Richard - Lexington, KY 40517
In May of 2022 a very damaging hail and windstorm pretty much destroyed my entire roof in Lexington Kentucky. Due to an insurance company that did not want to pay Jacobs Ladder was able to negotiate payment for an entirely new roof, decking and all which now meets current codes. Final work was completed January of 2023. Now my roof which leaked into my kitchen from May 2022 through December of 2022 has ceased to leak onto my kitchen floor. Their work is so good it withstood the 100 mph plus winds of 3rd March 2023.
