Metal roofing is slowly becoming more and more popular, not only a viable option for industrial and commercial buildings, but for residential properties, too. Benefits of this type of roofing include longevity, increased property value, and easy maintenance.
Although metal roofing is an option for residential properties, as previously mentioned, generally, this is a less popular choice for homeowners. This is slowly changing, though, and we can expect more proprietors to invest in a harder, longer-lasting roof.

Are there any downsides to metal roofing?
Alongside the many pros surrounding the new trend that is metal roofing, there are a few downsides you should be wary of. These potential cons include:
- May dent easier than other roofing materials
- Prone to leaking
- May fade over time as a result of severe weather
One of the main downsides you should be wary of is the risk of denting – this should be a concern if you live in an area prone to hail or heavy rain. Likewise, high winds may result in other objects hitting your roof and leaving a mark, later requiring repairs to fix this.
To conclude
The average lifespan of a metal roof is thirty years. However, as to be expected, this varies depending on the climate, your environment, and the quality of the metal and the installation. So, to summarize: invest in your roof and quality tradesmen and women to ensure a long-lasting job.

In May of 2022 a very damaging hail and windstorm pretty much destroyed my entire roof in Lexington Kentucky. Due to an insurance company that did not want to pay Jacobs Ladder was able to negotiate payment for an entirely new roof, decking and all which now meets current codes. Final work was completed January of 2023. Now my roof which leaked into my kitchen from May 2022 through December of 2022 has ceased to leak onto my kitchen floor. Their work is so good it withstood the 100 mph plus winds of 3rd March 2023.
